UMMA Jazz Series: Tumbao Bravo
Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy this special outdoor performance in celebration of more than fifty years of the Ann Arbor Art Fair. Winner of two Detroit Music Awards and a final DMA nominee every year since 2005, Tumbao Bravo performs the authentic rhythms of Cuba with rich jazz harmonies. Formed in 2004, the band consists of co-founders Paul VornHagen (sax, flute) and Alberto Nacif (congas) with Javier Barrios (timbales), Bob Mojica (trumpet), Brian DiBlassio (piano), and Pat Prouty (bass). Their three CDs have been featured on all the major Latin jazz radio programs throughout the US, including in Miami, Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans, and Detroit. This year the group will release its fourth CD entitled Casa Versailles.
This monthly series, curated by UM Associate Professor Adam Unsworth, presents outstanding local artists and is made possible by the Doris Sloan Memorial Fund.
