Common Chords is a 501c3 educational organization dedicated to using music and the arts to tear down the walls that divide us.
Co-founders Rev. Robert Jones and Matt Watroba are award winning performers and creative collaborators. They are musical partners, educators and have been friends for thirty-five years. Robert and Matt use traditional and original music and stories to emphasize the importance of understanding and valuing the perspective of every person. Their programs center around learning to question the answers that each of us hold as truth.
Matt Watroba is a singer/songwriter, native Detroiter, song leader with many connections to Ann Arbor, including numerous shows at The Ark and as a song leader at Ann Arbor Senior Center. He is known as the voice of folk music in Michigan through his former work at WDET and the syndicated Folk Alley radio program. He is currently producer and host of WKAR’s Folks Like Us radio program on Sunday evenings. He was inducted into the Folk DJ Hall of Fame in 2019.
Rev. Robert Jones, Sr. is a native Detroiter and an inspirational storyteller and musician celebrating the history, humor and power of American Roots music. His deep love for traditional African American and American traditional music is shared in live performances that interweave timeless stories with original and traditional songs.
For more than thirty years Robert has entertained and educated audiences of all ages. At the heart of his message is the belief that our cultural diversity tells a story that should celebrate, not just tolerate.
