LAGS Seminar | Artificial Intelligence Is Eating The World

Scott Stephenson (Co-Founder & CEO, Deepgram)

Do you want to know about the world of high growth tech startups, how A.I. is changing the world, and how you fit in?

We're in the middle of a phase change in society. People usually call them "revolutions" - like the Agricultural Revolution, Industrial Revolution, or Information Revolution. Well, we're in the Intelligence Revolution right now, whether you want to admit it or not. A step function has already flipped, and it's not going back. We'll tackle what that means for the future and especially for you.

Hi! I'm Scott Stephenson, I was a Umich physics graduate student just like you. I've since cofounded the venture backed A.I. company Deepgram (with awesome Umich physics alums) where we build cutting edge deep learning to automate voice interactions in hundreds of products across 20+ languages. In graduate school, we used machine learning techniques to understand the fundamentals laws of physics and now we get to build crazy cool, massive scale artificial intelligence systems to understand the fundamental laws of intelligence.

I'll talk about how physics prepared us for A.I., how we started an A.I. company, how we raised money, what it's like to work at a big tech company, what it's like to work in a startup, and how smart, motivated physicists like yourself are uniquely suited to work on these problems and ultimately run this new intelligence revolution.
