SMBC Meet & Greet Series (Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage; Strategic Credit Products; Risk Management; Capital Markets Risk; Transaction Banking)
Our SMBC Meet and Greet Series is for all students seeking a 2023 internship or full-time analyst opportunity with our firm. Each session will consist of overviews of the various groups that hire into our programs led by the business members themselves followed by an open-forum Q&A session. Since each session will be different, students are encouraged to attend as many as they like.
Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage - Lending Management Group
The Lending Management Group sits within the Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage Department and is primarily responsible for credit underwriting, deal documentation, and closing and ongoing portfolio management. We support the Marketing Group within CIBC by driving transaction execution.
Strategic Credit Products - Lenders FinanceGroup
The Lender Finance Group provides financing to financial institutions primarily engaged in middle-market leveraged lending. LFG activities support both permanent financing for loan asset manager portfolios as wellas warehouse financing for CLOs which are arranged by Nikko. The group has provided $10 billion in asset-based or corporate facilities across ~15-20 counterparties.
Risk Management
The Risk Management Department, Americas Division (RMDAD) comprehensively and dynamically manages the risksfacing SMBC across various risk stripes and categories. RMDAD plays a critical role in SMBC’s “second line of defense,” overseeing and monitoring risks across the firm, creating sound risk management policies, principles, and frameworks, and working to ensure strong controls are in place to manage and promote informed risk taking.
SMBC Capital Markets - Risk
SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. (SMBC CM) provides market liquidity and customized derivative solutions to corporate and institutional clients around the globe. In addition, SMBC offers regional fixed income and foreign exchange expertise through 70+ offices in over 40 countries. We work inclose collaboration with various relationship management partners and other product specialists to provide integrated financing and risk managementsolutions to help our clients achieve their objectives.
Transaction Banking
Transaction Banking (TRBD) works extensively across SMBC’s global footprint, throughout major markets such as the United Kingdom and theEU, APAC and mainland Asia, as well as North and South America. TRBD serves its clients via technology platforms and provides a suite of traditional cash management services.
