Alum Connection: Making a Difference at Home with Neel Hajra

Neel Hajra Neel Hajra
Neel Hajra
Neel Hajra is no stranger to the Ann Arbor community. Born at the U-M hospital and a two-time graduate at U-M, Neel used his degrees as a vehicle to support the place he calls home. Although seemingly unrelated, Neel joins us to share how a physics degree led to law school, before catapulting him to the working world of business, non-profits, and eventually his current CEO position. The paths an LSA degree unlocks are plentiful and Neel offers tips on navigating next steps, identifying the purposeful parts of work, and using your degree and networks to advance your career.

About Neel:

Neel Hajra is the CEO of the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, a philanthropic foundation that distributes over $35 million a year to improve the health and wellness of Michigan residents. His prior CEO roles were with the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (during which he was named “CEO of the Year” by the United Way of Washtenaw County) and Nonprofit Enterprise at Work (where he was awarded national fellowships for nonprofit leadership by the Aspen Institute and American Express). For 13 years, Neel taught a graduate course on nonprofit policy and management at the University of Michigan Ford School of Public Policy and was named on the teaching honor roll many times. He serves as a national board officer for Grantmakers for Effective Organizations and has previously served in board officer roles for the Council of Michigan Foundations and the Washtenaw County Health Department.
