Dan Reaume, Chief Analytics Director at Caterpillar
Abstract: Getting Real Value From Analytics: Making Sure You're Really Answering the Right Questions
The power of analytics has grown exponentially with advances in algorithms, processing power, and data availability. But successfully gaining value from analytics often remains elusive. In this talk, Dan will highlight examples from his experience as part of his philosophy for developing and deploying analytics in practice to ensure they answer the right questions to drive significant and sustainable impacts. He will also talk about internships and career opportunities at Caterpillar.
Bio: Dan Reaume has over 25 years of experience leading the development and delivery of analytic solutions and strategies for several of the world’s largest and most iconic companies. After completing his Ph.D. in IOE at the University of Michigan, Dan joined GM R&D, where he was awarded GM’s top technical award on three occasions, rose to the rank of technical fellow, and led GM’s Senior Leadership Technical Council. He subsequently held leadership positions with Dow Corning, Dow Chemical, and Revenue Analytics before assuming his current role as Chief Analytics Director of Cat Digital. Dan leads a team of over 100 data scientists applying analytics to IoT monitoring, aftermarket sales, e-Commerce, and business optimization. Dan has a long track record of service to the Analytics profession, teaching as a lecturer at IOE for almost two decades, serving on the INFORMS Roundtable, and serving on advisory boards for Purdue, Michigan State, and Wayne State Universities, the Chicago Analytics Leadership Network, and the Chicago CDO Community. Dan is also a licensed professional engineer and attorney.
This seminar series exposes students to a wide-ranging of potential careers in industrial and operations engineering such as consulting, data science, healthcare, finance, supply chain management, energy, transportation, and others. Students will learn from industry affiliates about the nature of different careers and how to prepare for success after graduation.
