Dr. Patricia J. García is a professor in the School of Public Health at Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru. She has served as Peru’s Minister of Health, dean of the School of Public Health at Cayetano Heredia University, and chief of the Peruvian National Institute of Health.

García is recognized as a leader in global health and has been a member of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Foundation’s technical advisory group, a board member of the Consortium of Universities in Global Health, and president of the Latin American Association Against STDs (ALACITS).

García is affiliate professor of Global Health at the University of Washington and at the School of Public Health at Tulane University, and is actively involved in research and training in global health, reproductive and sexual health, and medical informatics. She is a member of the United States National Academy of Medicine, being the first Peruvian professional to achieve this distinction.

The Center for Global Health Equity is delighted to have Dr. García kick off our 2022-2023 Distinguished Seminar Series Journeys in Global Health Equity: Distances Traveled by Luminaries in the Field. This series features global health luminaries from around the world who will share an intimate glimpse of their professional and personal journeys, critical challenges they see in the field, and ways to contribute to relevant solutions.

On September 29, Dr. García will discuss lessons learned across her career as a woman leader in the field.
