In this first talk of a two part sequence, we will discuss some facts about the geometry of the space of Kahler potentials on a compact manifold. In particular, we will discuss the relation between geodesics in this space and the homogeneous complex Monge-Ampère equation. There will be no prerequisites for this talk except a basic knowledge of manifolds.
