This gala performance is the culmination of a residency and event series, October 1-4, with instrumental demonstrations, lectures, class visits, and a roundtable discussion with U-M faculty.

Soloists of the internationally-acclaimed National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan (NCO) perform “Splendid Sounds of Taiwain.” The ensemble brings together some of the finest talent of the Chinese music community in Taiwan. Performing repertoire of traditional Chinese music re-imagined for the global stage, they will play yangqin (dulcimer), dizi (flute), sheng (reed organ), erhu (two-string fiddle) and gehu (four-string bass fiddle).

The residency is made possible through the U-M Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments, with additional support from the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization, U-M Lieberthal Rogel Center for Chinese Studies, U-M East Asia National Resource Center, U-M School of Music,Theatre & Dance, and U-M Center for World Performance Studies.
