Location matters not only for modern real estate but also for ancient cities. Seleucia-on-the-Tigris was located at the narrowest point between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, 18 miles south of modern Baghdad in Iraq. This strategic location at the crossroads of east and west attracted a diverse population; Babylonians, Macedonians, Greeks, Jews, and Syrians came here to live and conduct trade. This tour uses artifacts from the University of Michigan excavations at Seleucia to show evidence of the cultural interactions at the site.
