Recent years have seen fantastic applications of p-adic L-functions of automorphic forms (and their families) to special cases of the BSD conjecture. I will explain recent progress towards constructing such general p-adic L-functions, including those used by Loeffler and Zerbes in their recent work on BSD for abelian surfaces.
