Topology seminar: Quadratic isoperimetric inequality for mapping tori of hyperbolic groups

Qianwen Sun

Dehn functions have attracted a lot of attention in recent years. It is an optimal function that bounds the area of a word, representing identity, in terms of the defining relators within a finitely presented group. It is conjectured that the mapping torus of a hyperbolic group exhibits a quadratic isoperimetric inequality. In this talk, I will discuss a recent development: it is confirmed for one-ended torsion-free hyperbolic groups.
