Student Dyn/Geo/Top: Ergodic Theory, Integer Dynamics, and Patterns in Primes

Henry Talbott

The integers can be viewed as a discrete dynamical system with an ‘add one’ operator. Under this framework, various questions about recurrence in ergodic systems specialize to very concrete problems in additive combinatorics. We’ll discuss the tools that are commonly applied to these problems by studying Roth’s Theorem and Szemeredi’s Theorem for Primes.
