The theory of standard monomials provides a combinatorial approach to studying determinantal rings via a correspondence between products of minors and Young tableaux. In this talk, we will introduce standard monomials and their key properties, including the straightening law. We will then show how to use these properties to study (F-)singularities of determinatal rings.
