Leadership Dialogues with David Deno Leadership Dialogues with David Deno
Leadership Dialogues with David Deno
The Leadership Dialogues speaker series is a fireside chat-style event featuring accomplished industry, political, and non-profit leaders discussing the latest ideas in organizational research and ongoing practice with U-M faculty. Speakers share advice on topics including how to develop leadership skills, lead purpose-driven organizations, and manage crises. All dialogues are free and open to the entire U-M community.

Join the Sanger Leadership Center for an engaging session of the Leadership Dialogues featuring David (Dave) Deno, Chief Executive Officer of Bloomin’ Brands, and Michigan Ross MBA '82. Dr. Marcus Collins, an award-winning professor and cultural translator, will lead the interview. Collins serves as a marketing professor at Michigan Ross and the Chief Strategy Officer at Wieden+Kennedy New York.

In this insightful dialogue, Deno and Collins will delve into the significance of building strong organizational cultures that inspire confidence and drive action. Drawing from his extensive leadership experiences, including instilling confidence in over 90,000 hospitality employees whose jobs drastically changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Deno will share many of the leadership lessons he’s learned during his career.

Deno was named Chief Executive Officer of Bloomin’ Brands and a member of the Board of Directors in March 2019 after serving as the company’s Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. He joined the company in 2012 from Best Buy, where he served as President of Asia and Chief Financial Officer for Best Buy International. His hospitality industry career has included more than 15 years in senior-level operations and financial positions at PepsiCo/YUM Brands and eight years at Burger King. Dave earned an MBA from Michigan Ross and a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Macalester College.

Collins is an accomplished marketer and professor who brings a unique perspective with his dual roles at Wieden+Kennedy New York and the Ross School of Business. Collins’ deep understanding of brand strategy and consumer behavior has enabled him to be one of the leading experts bridging the academic-practitioner gap. He’s the author of the acclaimed book, For the Culture: The Power Behind What We Buy, What We Do, and Who We Want to Be.

Don't miss this engaging discussion on the art of leadership, culture-building, and the lessons these two leaders have gained in steering organizations to success.
