The Representation Ring of $GL_n$ and the cohomology ring of the Grassmanian have (almost) identical structure and the analysis of the structure of these rings is in terms of irreducible representations and schubert varieties respectively. We will construct a direct map between these two rings and see how the corresponding basis relate to each other.
