Big Play Day
Spend a fun-filled day at Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor, where play takes center stage! "Big Play Day," happening on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, is a family-friendly and kid-focused event that promises a day of open-ended exploration and guided activities suitable for all ages. This event is free and open to the public, offering families a unique opportunity to connect with the natural world in fun and meaningful ways.
Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum (MBGNA), along with our community partners, look forward to hosting a day rich with discovery and simple pleasures.

- Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum: Discover the wonder of nature with our "Wonder Walks," get creative with "Nature Art," and enjoy spontaneous play at our "Nature Play Pop-Ups."
- Leslie Science & Nature Center / Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum: Dive into interactive activities that highlight the incredible world of trees and stimulate the mind with STEM-focused tasks.
- Drummunity: Tap into communal beats at our drum circle and join in the fun with hands-on percussion activities, suitable for all ages and musical abilities.
- Adventure Leadership: Enhance teamwork with exhilarating parachute games and unwind at a yoga station designed to refresh both body and mind.
- Ann Arbor District Library (AADL): Challenge yourself and others with oversize versions of classic games like Giant Jenga, perfect for building skills and friendships.
- Natural Areas Preservation (NAP): Immerse yourself in hands-on experiences that deepen your appreciation and understanding of our local ecosystems.
- Therese Ojibway: Put imagination to work by constructing whimsical fairy houses within the magical setting of our Fairy and Troll Knoll.
Nichols Arboretum is located at 1610 Washington Hts, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Limited on-site street parking is available. For your convenience, a free shuttle will transport participants from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm from 1900 Fuller Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
