Vocalist, writer, and arts educator Jazzy Ash invites you to come along on a pizzazzy, energetic musical adventure. This interactive concert delves into the history and development of jazz from its origins in New Orleans’ Congo Square to the present. Along with her band, the Leaping Lizards, Ash introduces jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington and shares family stories, including her grandfather’s work to advance voting rights and learning how to make beignets with her mother. This performance includes a call-and-response sing-along, an imagined Mardi Gras parade, and a grand finale that will have the audience up on its feet. Get ready to have some fun!
