Mind Matters: Suicide Risk During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period
The Department of Psychiatry, Zero to Thrive, and the Perinatal Mental Health Services and Policy Program are pleased to present Mind Matters: Suicide Risk During Pregnancy and The Postpartum Period.
Welcoming a new baby can be a joyful moment for families, though it also marks a major life change. As with any life-changing event, parents-to-be will experience a wide range of emotions and not all of them may be the positive, happy feelings they expect. Mental health concerns during pregnancy and the first year of parenthood are not uncommon with studies showing recent rises in diagnoses of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Among these mental health concerns, suicide is the leading cause of injury and death among pregnant people.
This Suicide Prevention Month, join our experts as they break down the risk factors for suicide during pregnancy and the first year of parenthood as well as prevention and treatment options that save lives. They will share key research findings, resources to help support pregnant and postpartum people, as well as personal stories of hope and resilience in the face of suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Mind Matters is a free, virtual community education series for individuals living with a mental health condition as well as their loved ones. Join us in real-time via Zoom to learn more about the topic of perinatal suicide.
Note: Our presenters will discuss sensitive topics related to suicide. While the goal of this presentation is to educate about suicide prevention and highlight stories of hope, we acknowledge that this topic may be difficult for some viewers. Throughout the presentation, our presenters will share relevant content warnings for each portion to support a healthy viewing experience for everyone.
