Mind Matters: When Your Child Talks of Suicide or Cuts
The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to present this Mind Matters educational webinar that will address what loved ones can do when a child in their life expresses suicidal thoughts and/or engages in self-harming behaviors.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), teenagers and young adults are most likely to self-harm, with 17.2% of teenagers and 13.4% of young adults engaging in self-harm at some point. NAMI also reports that 11% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 have serious thoughts about suicide, and 1-2% have attempted suicide in the past year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people between the ages of 10 and 14.
This webinar will provide practical tips for those who care for children, whether as a parent, caregiver, family member, or a teacher.
This webinar is free and open to the public. Register for the link to join.
