What Makes a Democracy? Exploring Elections and Electoral Systems in Europe and Africa

Third Thursdays at the Library

For good reason, US elections, and the policies that govern them, have commanded intense focus in recent years. But citizens in many other countries are casting their votes too. Come explore the array of democratic systems and electoral processes throughout Europe and Africa. Browse a display that includes election ephemera, web archive content, and scholarship on the topic and learn how democracy at the national and international level works — or, sometimes doesn’t work — in countries ranging from Armenia to Zambia.

Join us for Third Thursdays at the Library, a themed monthly open house where we share materials from our collections.

While you’re here, pick up a Third Thursday Passport and collect a stamp from each of the three Third Thursday Open Houses — the Clark Library, International Studies, and the Special Collections Research Center — to win a prize!
