Student Number Theory: An introduction to class field theory

Beomseok Kwon

Class field theory aims to explain the abelian Galois
extensions of a local or global field K by relating them to the
arithmetic of K. In this talk, we will introduce the basic tools of
class field theory, such as Tate cohomology and L-functions. Then, we
will sketch a proof of the Artin reciprocity and the existence theorem
in both local and global cases.
