Presented By: Kelsey Museum of Archaeology
Sunday Drop-In Tour | Highlights of the Kelsey
Kristen Goodman, Docent

Sometimes, the most fascinating artifacts in museums are, at first glance, the most mundane. But these artifacts can give much insight into the lives of people in the ancient world. Francis Kelsey, the museum’s namesake, was forward-thinking in his approach to archaeology, and as a result, the Kelsey has wonderful collections of everyday items used by people from the ancient Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Roman worlds—items their previous owners never would have expected to be protected behind glass. During this tour, we will discuss how these items were used (and recycled) and how they were preserved for thousands of years. We will be looking at trash and treasure alike. After all, it is in the eye of the beholder!
