Student Number Theory: Twisting up groups
Ram Ekstrom
In this talk we will investigate twists of reductive groups while paying a particular close attention to tori. In the situation of tori, understanding the various twists that can arise is somewhat easier to understand. I will then explain how one can construct twists of reductive subgroups inside a given reductive group. For example, I will explain how one can construct an outer form and an inner form of SL(3) inside the group G_2. The machinery that I will develop can be readily applied to any reductive group that you like.
