Student CA Seminar: Schur functors in commutative algebra

Teresa Yu

Schur functors are important objects across algebra, geometry, and combinatorics. For example, they realize irreducible representations of general linear groups in characteristic zero and have bases indexed by semistandard Young tableaux. In this talk, we'll give some ways of constructing Schur functors, and show how they can be used to describe homological invariants like Ext, Tor, and local cohomology modules.
