The phrase “noncommutative geometry” is, unfortunately, fairly overloaded. Here I will present one notion of noncommutative algebraic geometry, where we view (triangulated) categories as geometric objects in their own right. These arise most frequently as categories of sheaves of modules on ordinary varieties, but I will mention some examples that appear in the wild which are not of this type.
