Student combinatorics: The Markov equation
Scott Neville
The Markov equation is the Diophantine equation x^2 • y^2 z^2 - xyz = 0. It appears in number theory, hyperbolic geometry, and approximation theory. We will discuss some related open problems, the infinite tree of its solutions, and possible generalizations.
