Connected or Controlled?: Exploring the #unfiltered self in the age of social media
Exhibition of work from Digital/Writing 200: Social Media Evolutions

We are a group of students at the University of Michigan enrolled in Digital/Writing 200. We were prompted with the task of tracking our social media usage for roughly six weeks. After reflecting on our social media logs, each of us conceptualized an art piece and artist statement that was the result of our deep thinking about our social media usage. We are all so unique and consume media in different ways, and this exhibition allows us to see the ways our peers feel connected or controlled by social media.
Through this exhibition, we invite you to reflect on your own relationship with social media. After engaging with the artwork and considering these questions, we hope you gain a deeper understanding of the ways social media shapes the lives of Gen-Z students—and its impact on your own daily life.
