Student Algebraic Geometry: Phantoms in Derived Categories

Sridhar Venkatesh

Let X be a smooth projective variety and D^b_{coh}(X) denote the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on X. An admissible subcategory A of D^b_{coh}(X) is said to be a phantom if its Grothendieck group vanishes. I will describe a recent result of Krah, which proves the existence of a phantom on P^2 blown up at 10 points.
