Lamenting Darkness: The Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah
Composed for performances during Holy Week in 1714, François Couperin's Leçons de Ténèbres ("Tenebrae Readings," or "Lessons of Darkness") profoundly set to music the ancient text of the Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah. Featuring two sopranos, viola da gamba, and keyboard, this sacred vocal chamber music is unequalled in elegance, passion, contrition, and pure sonic pleasure.

Presented by the Department of Organ, and featuring SMTD student performers:
Angela Bonello, soprano
Marisa Redding, soprano
Youngeun Lee, viola da gamba
T. Logan Rees, organ and harpsichord
