The bending of space, time and our perception of reality through emotion is the inspiration for this collection of contemporary music. Although Charles Ives wrote his quirky "Country Band" March more than a century ago, he was a composer way ahead of his time. David Biedenbender's evocative piece for saxophone quartet and band challenges the imagination with a story of puppets becoming unmoored to their strings. And Michigan faculty member Patrick Harlan imagines a furious trip through the ages and their iconic musical worlds in his brand new piece "The Time Traveler," which was co-commissioned by the University of Michigan Symphony Band through the support of the H. Robert Reynolds Commissioning Fund.
