"Re:Frame" – Dance BFA Concert
The Department of Dance presents Re:Frame with choreography by senior Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance majors Emerson Forbes, Irene Kim, Julia Lepore, Ava Menzel, Ladina Schaller, and Jessica Serres.

Advanced tickets are free and will be available via Eventbrite beginning April 1. The house will open at 7:00pm.

Film Is a Dream Realized, choreographed by Emerson Forbes, is rooted in the contemporary fusion dance style and vintage Hollywood cinema – and inspired by her great grandfather, a famous composer for classic films. This piece explores how cinematic elegance can be brought to life through the integration of live dance and projected film elements within a stylized black and white aesthetic. The choreography aims to create a richly textured atmosphere that echoes the expressive energy and timeless sophistication of classic movies.

Integral Silence, choreographed by Irene Kim, is inspired by 2016 robotic installation “Can’t Help Myself” by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu and investigates the raw and visceral human toll of living in a high-pressure society. This piece offers the audience the opportunity to witness the quiet “bleeding out” of the personal self that results from the pressure to always be optimized, to always perform, to always keep up the appearance of being the best versions of ourselves.

Flipping Through the Pages, choreographed by Julia Lepore, is a movement trailer based on a self-published novel she wrote titled Different Fonts. These two works of art encapsulate the psychology behind dance through fictional characters and an audacious storyline. In watching this piece, you are immersed in a live action replication of the movement behind the words written on this novel’s pages. Beyond the 10 minutes of performing, and the 400+ pages of writing, there is still so much left unwritten…

Of Something I Left Behind, choreographed by Ava Menzel, investigates time as something felt rather than measured. Through contemporary-based movement, the work explores themes of remembering, forgetting, distortion as time moves forward, and how nostalgia can feel both comforting and deeply unsettling.

Who’s there?!, choreographed by Ladina Schaller, serves as a glimpse into a work performed at Nichols Arboretum on April 18, where on a walk through the forest the audience will encounter fragments of personalities, whispers of old stories and a world of unanswered questions. Local artists and friends are chipping in to create this world via dance, live music, acting and puppetry.

Pulsafuerte, choreographed by Jessica Serres, explores the consequences of cultural clashing in a place it was unexpected to form. She explores how conflict and presence have an effect on the meshing of ideas and the creation of community.
