Gender, Translation, and Jewish Modernity
Anita Norich, Frankel Fellow & Naomi Seidman, Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley
Jewish modernity entailed not only a range of geographical, political, and linguistic shifts but also the transformation of traditional sex-gender cultural systems. Taking some case studies as our launching point, we will explore the adoption of new modes of organizing gender, the move from one language to another, and the implications of such moves for writers, translators, and readers.
