Cello + Piano. Classical + Jazz.
Jeremy Crosmer, cello & Joel Ayau, piano
SMTD alumni Jeremy Crosmer (MM '09, cello; MM '11, composition; DMA '12, cello; member, Detroit Symphony Orchestra) joins Joel Ayau (DMA '10, collaborative piano; Senior Vocal Coach, New England Conservatory) for an evening of chamber works that explore the intersection between classical and popular music.
Each composer featured has some connection with contemporary idioms, whether Francis Poulenc's jazz-influenced harmonies, an arrangement of Gershwin's Three Preludes for cello and piano by Nicholas Canellakis, or the virtuosic and jazz-infused works of Nikolai Kapustin. The program begins with the world premiere of Flaschblume, an irreverent mash-up of Beethoven's third cello sonata Flor de Lino by Teagan Faran (BM '18, violin).
