Student Algebraic Geometry: Hyperkahler varieties and compactified "Jacobian" fibrations

Saket Shah

Hyperkahler varieties, also known as holomorphically symplectic manifolds, are the algebraic versions of symplectic manifolds, and can be thought of as higher-dimensional analogues of K3 surfaces. One of the more interesting ways they arise are from the total spaces of some degeneration of abelian varieties. I'll explain some of these notions and some examples where these arise.
