KYLYN Festival | Jogakbo Fabric Workshop

Kim DeBord

This image is a vibrant promotional poster for the KYLYN Festival, specifically advertising a Jogakbo Fabric Workshop. The graphic features a central, light blue rectangular block containing white text against a background of dynamic, multicolored geometric shapes. These background patterns consist of sharp-edged triangles and polygons in bold shades of magenta, purple, lime green, and royal blue, with some sections containing diagonal white pinstripes that mimic the look of traditional Korean patchwork (Jogakbo). The text is all capitalized and sans-serif, positioned in the center-left: the top line reads "KYLYN FESTIVAL" in a stylized font, followed by "JOGAKBO FABRIC WORKSHOP" in a large, heavy typeface. At the bottom, smaller text provides the event details: "WEDNESDAY MAY 20 | 6PM" and "DOWNTOWN LIBRARY," accompanied by a small square logo depicting a stylized sunburst. The Nam Center is excited to support this event with the local fabric artist Kim DeBord in celebration of the AAPi month!

Jogakbo, a traditional Korean form of patchwork, is a technique for creating wrapping cloth (Bojagi) rooted in resourcefulness and intention. In this hands-on workshop, artist Kim Debord of Cluster Museum and Invisible Engines will introduce participants to the process of jogakbo. Learn the unique piecework technique that creates a double-sided cloth and take home your own bojagi. All materials will be provided, and no prior sewing experience is necessary.

The Ann Arbor District Library will make every effort to accommodate as many attendees as possible, but seating and supplies for this event are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event is part of the KYLYN AAPI Arts & Culture Festival.

*Accommodation: If there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you, please contact us. Please be aware that advance notice is necessary as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.
