This talk aims to give a friendly, high level introduction to the local Langlands correspondence. I will start by recalling some of the basic definitions in p-adic representation theory, and then state the (crude) local Langlands correspondence. I will discuss the refinement of the local Langlands correspondence for quasi-split groups, and -- time permitting -- comment on the refinement in the non-quasi-split case.
