Student Number Theory: What are parahoric subgroups?

In this talk, we will motivate why the parahoric subgroups of a connected reductive group over a nonarchimedean local field are defined the way they are. We will of course supply several examples and say a few things about Bruhat--Tits buildings and integral models.
