Math Grad Show and Tell Seminar: The ADE classification

Aaron Kim

The ADE classification of singularities The ADE classification of singularities
The ADE classification of singularities
The ADE diagrams, originating in Lie theory, often provide a classification of the ‘simplest’ objects in seemingly unrelated fields of mathematics. Examples include reflection groups, the Platonic solids, isolated singularities, and quivers, with further links to some finite simple groups. We will present a few of these cases and explore their connections. No background in Lie theory is assumed.
