Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is designed for people taking half or full-day trips, and for those traveling with reliable cell phone coverage—where outside assistance is typically available within a few hours. WFA courses are an introduction to wilderness expedition medicine, focusing on general concepts, basic anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment, and treatment.

Course Duration: 16 hours over 2 days - December 12-13
Course location: Adventure Education Center, 1120 N Dixboro Rd., Ann Arbor, MI (AEC)

Hybrid courses are taught through both an Online Module an In-person Session. The Online Module provides the foundation for the In-person Session and is delivered online with minimal or no instructor contact.

During the Online Module, students work at their own pace to learn anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and how to assess patients using our field manual, patient notes, and the same clinical patterns that physicians use. The Online Module requires access to a reliable high-speed internet connection. Hybrid course participants will receive a Wilderness Medicine Handbook for use during the Online Module from the Adventure Leadership Outpost at the IMSB.

In the In-person Session, they learn the hands-on skills required for treating patients in real-world incidents.
