Diaspora in Conversation: Cultures, Languages, and Methods in and beyond Jewish Studies
A panel discussion sponsored by the Yiddish Studies Workshop RIW
“Diaspora,” a Greek word originally used to refer to the dispersal of Jews after the Babylonian exile, has since become a key concept across various cultures and fields of study, Jewish and not. What, if anything, unites a diasporic approach to a diverse set of languages and cultures? Where can theories and methods be fruitfully shared? What, on the other hand, are the limits of “diaspora” as a common analytic? The Yiddish Studies Workshop invites you to an interdisciplinary panel of emerging scholars, who will explore these questions across their work with Jewish, Armenian, and South Asian diaspora languages and cultures.
Panelists:
Emma Avagyan, PhD Candidate, Middle East Studies
Glenn Ellis, PhD Student, Middle East Studies
Amelia Roth-Dishy, PhD Student, History
Cassandra Euphrat Weston, Postdoctoral Fellow, Frankel Institute for Judaic Studies
