Our Town is a play in three acts: the first act is titled Daily Life, the second is Love and Marriage, and the third is Death and Dying (or Death and Eternity). The show follows the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, starting in 1901, full of ordinary people going about their daily lives. In the context of the show, a copy of the play was to go in a time capsule, so, as the Stage Manager puts it, “the people a thousand years from now’ll know a few simple facts about us,” “the way we were: in our growing up and in our marrying and in our living and in our dying.” I think you’ll find that their ordinary lives aren’t so detached from ours.
