Jews and the Roman Empire: Beyond Resistance/Accommodation Paradigm
Frankel Institute Symposium
It would not be an exaggeration to claim that the complex relations between the Jews and the mighty Roman Empire were one of the factors that determined the course of the world history. The presenters will revisit some of the dichotomies that have been taken for granted, offering new interpretations of shared practices and discourses in the Roman imperial space. The symposium seeks to explore the variety of ways in which Jews in the Roman Empire competed with, rejected, endorsed, imitated, and transformed imperial customs, tropes, and modes of being in creating the rich literary culture of late antiquity.
