Three rarely heard 20th century masterworks will anchor the first concert of the semester as the U-M Percussion Ensemble returns to historic Hill Auditorium. Taillefere’s two-piano/four percussion Hommage a Rameau references Bartok as well as her influence as a member of “les six.” The Boulez works, Improvisation sur Mallarme I & II, feature harp, piano, celeste, and voice with up to eight percussionists and are representative of the unique sound world and sublime orchestration for which Boulez is revered. Griffin’s The Persistence of Past Chemistries and Zivkovic’s Trio Per Uno will also be featured. The Ensemble is thrilled to have guests from across SMTD and multiple studios represented.
