Pre-concert conversation with Ricardo Lorenz, Michael Daugherty, Carol Jantsch, and Michael Haithcock at 7:15 PM in the Lower Lobby.
Michael Haithcock, conductor.
The Symphony Band welcomes U-M alumna Carol Jantsch, principal tuba of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The band will have the premiere performance of Michael Daugherty’s Reflections on the Mississippi for Tuba and Band. This uniquely American musical reflection is paired with Ricardo Lorenz’s El Muro (“no walls”), a work based on his Latin heritage. Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein and Variations and Fugue by Vittorio Giannini reflect their unique compositional voices while Percy Grainger’s Three Miniatures illustrate his genius for instrumental color.
