Isaac S. Kohane, MD, PhD, Henderson Professor of Pediatrics and Health Sciences and Technology, Director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, will give the second annual Gilbert S. Omenn Lecture at the University of Michigan on Monday, September 29 at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Kohane’s lecture, “Biomedical Informatics is the New Way of Connecting Biomedical Research and Clinical Practice” is at the Danto Auditorium of the Samuel & Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center located at 1500 E. Medical Center Drive on the University of Michigan medical campus.
“Zak Kohane is a pioneer in Biomedical Informatics. His i2b2 ‘bench to bedside’ platform, developed with Partners HealthCare in Boston, has been adopted at U of M and throughout the country to create ‘living laboratories’ that utilize genomic research and electronic health records to improve patient care,” said Dr. Omenn.
Dr. Kohane is also founder of the Center for Outcome and Policy Research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Center for Genetic Epidemiology at Harvard Medical School. He is a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and the Society of Pediatric Research, and a member of the Institute of Medicine, and the American Society of Clinical Investigation.
This annual lectureship honors Gilbert S. Omenn, MD, PhD, a professor of internal medicine, human genetics, and public health at U-M since 1997. Dr. Omenn is the director of the university-wide Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, founded in 2005. He leads the global Human Proteome Project. From 1997 to 2002, Dr. Omenn was CEO of the U-M Health System and executive vice president for medical affairs. He was honored with the naming of the Biomedical Science Research Building atrium.
