Rising composer, Salfelder, reimagines Gabrieli’s Canzon Primi Toni, both of which are featured together. Two modern lullabies lie in contrast to Nelson’s bright and colorful work for soprano and band. Mendelssohn’s work for harmony ensemble is paired against Hindemith’s symphony, both staples of the wind repertoire. Finally, the concert closes with Shostakovich’s youthful Folk Dances.
