Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies Friday Series
In the early 20th century, the institutional forms and techniques of medical and psychological sciences developed in particular contexts shaped by state organs and other political actors. In Russia and China, acute concerns over the status and health of the nation, focused on the prospects of children and mothers, combined with transnational influences to grant medicine, experimental psychology, and child sciences specific social and gendered meanings.
