Synopsis: The Institute’s 2015-17 theme challenges scholars to explore human perceptions and feelings, and particularly the emotion of longing, as people imagine the recovery of times past or the coming of desired futures. Three U-M historians will illustrate the theme by discussing their work on family photo albums, emotions in warfare, and waiting at court.

Panelists include:

Martha S. Jones, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of History, Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies, University of Michigan;
Hitomi Tonomura, Professor of History and Women's Studies, University of Michigan;
Helmut Puff, Professor of History and Germanic Languages and Literatures, University of Michigan;
Howard Brick (chair), Louis Evans Professor of History, University of Michigan.

Free and open to the public. Lunch provided.

This event is part of the Friday Series of the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies. It is made possible by a generous contribution from Kenneth and Frances Aftel Eisenberg.
