Known for an iconoclastic pictorial language of eccentric materials and radically unconventional techniques, New York painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel (born 1951) has been a pioneering, and controversial figure in the art world. Featuring works from the mid-1970s to the present, including pieces from Schnabel’s most well-known series, the Plate Paintings and Wax Paintings, this exhibition explores the artist’s use of found materials, his experimentation with chance operations, and his idiosyncratic and inventive mark-making. Enjoy Schnabel’s unorthodox art with an UMMA docent tour.
